Transformation Catches Up to Our Beliefs

Transformation Catches Up to Our Beliefs

By Steve Backlund

Our experience will catch up to our beliefs, and the waiting time is where we live out our faith.

When we set our minds on truth, it is like setting a thermostat to change the temperature in a room. The room is not immediately transformed to the set temperature, but it will eventually become that if the thermostat is not changed.

Romans 12:2 is one of the best spiritual thermostat setting verses in the Bible - “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” It is the key to having God’s promises “catch up” to us. This verse helps reveal:

  • Transformation is getting into our experience and feelings the promises of God.

  • Current mind renewal creates future feelings and experiences.

  • We can renew our minds with either lies or truth.

  • Whatever we renew our minds with will transform our tomorrow.

  • There is no limit to how much we can renew our minds, so there is no limit to how much our lives can be transformed.

  • Increasing hope is the evidence we are renewing our minds with truth; decreasing hope is the evidence we are renewing our minds with lies (Romans 15:13).

  • Believing truth makes us free (first in our emotions and then in our circumstances). Believing restricts us (first in our emotions and then in our circumstances).

Right believing creates right living. Here are three examples in the Bible of this happening:

  • Joshua - “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

  • Obedience, prosperity, and success catches up to those who change their beliefs through speaking and meditating on God’s word.

  • Jesus’ disciples - “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32).

  • Knowing truth and freedom catches up to those who abide in Jesus’ word.

  • Abraham - “Who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations” (Romans 4:18).

  • Our life purpose catches up to our beliefs.

Set Your Beliefs’ Thermostat to These:

  1. God’s Promises - participating in the divine nature will catch up to us (2 Peter 1:4)

  2. Your True Identity - our new creation will catch up to us (2 Corinthians 5:17. Hebrews 10:14)

  3. Your Prophetic Words - our unique purpose catches up to us (1 Timothy 1:18)

  4. Testimonies - the prophecies in the God testimonies we hear will catch up to us (Revelation 19:10

  5. Your Decisions and Commitments - increasing cheerfulness is the evidence we have attached to our decisions and commitments, and this is the sign that our Promised Land experience is near

Let me close by sharing what Jim Carey did before he had breakthrough as an actor. I do not know what his relationship with the Lord was, but he took today’s blog truth and experienced his dream as a result.

Carey wrote his dreams on paper and used his words to create his dreams. He once told a reporter, “When I wasn’t doing anything in Hollywood, I’d go up every night, sit on Mulholland Drive, look out at the city, stretch out my arms, and say ‘Everybody wants to work with me. I’m a really good actor. I have all kinds of great movie offers.’” Every night, he looked at the city where he wanted to work and spoke his dreams. He would say out loud what he wanted as if it were already happening. “I would just repeat these things over and over and over, literally convincing myself that I had a couple of movies lined up." He also wrote himself a $10,000,000 check for “acting services rendered” and dated it ten years in the future and kept it in his wallet.

Ten years later he was paid $10,000,000 for the movie, “Dumb and Dumber”.

Jim Carey tapped into a godly principle that many in the church don’t believe is possible, but that is not the case for you and me. Right now, we are getting revelation and empowerment to “set our minds on things above” (Colossians 3:2), and we will see our experience catching up with our hope-filled beliefs like never before.
