5 Keys for Financial Breakthrough

5 Keys for Financial Breakthrough

By Steve Backlund

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).

I believe God wants us to increase financially.
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus said “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” We cannot influence the world in this way if we are in lack of resources, energy, health, wisdom, favor, protection, and finances.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

The size of our vision will determine the finances we need
. If our vision is just to pay the bills every month, that doesn’t require a lot of resources. But if our vision is to change the world, then our need for abundance will be met.

Most all of us desire greater financial breakthrough.
Here are five keys to help make it happen:

  1. The Key of Identity - We cannot consistently do what we don’t believe we are. The most important question we can ask is who do we believe God is, and the second most important is who do we believe we are. If we have bad identity beliefs, we’ll attract lack. If we don’t have healthy beliefs that we are significant, loved, and worthy to be blessed, those negative identity beliefs will work against financial breakthrough. We are only able to receive what we believe we are worth. 3 John 2 says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Soul prosperity precedes outer prosperity, and soul propensity is rooted in healthy identity beliefs.
  2. The Key of Integrity - Proverbs 25:14 says, “A person who promises a gift and does not give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.” If we are telling people we will do something and do not follow through, that is like a promise of something good happening that we do not fulfill. Integrity is key. If we are dishonest with money, that will work against financial breakthroughs. We can’t be consistently violating God’s spiritual laws and expect to walk in blessing.
  3. The Key of Influence - When we dedicate our future financial increase to the Lord, we are purposing to use our influence for the glory of God. In 1 Samuel 17:46, David says to Goliath, “And this day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth that all the earth may know there is a God in Israel.” Why do we want more money? So that all the earth may know there is a God, and He is real!
  4. The Key of Industriousness - Proverbs 14:23 says, “In all labor there is profit but idle chatter leads only to poverty.” Proverbs 13:4 says, “The soul of a lazy man desires and has nothing but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.” Laziness leads to poverty, but diligence is necessary for riches. Yes, we need to avoid being a workaholic (where we are not trusting the Lord, not taking care of our bodies, and not prioritizing our families), but a sloth is not going to create financial breakthroughs. Both successful and unsuccessful people have things they don’t feel like doing, but the difference is that successful people find a way to do what they don’t feel like doing.
  5. The Key of Inventions - Proverbs 8:12 says, “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence and find out knowledge of witty inventions.” An invention is “a unique and novel device, method, composition, idea, or process.” I once heard someone say, “You don’t need more money, you need a new idea!” The greatest ideas and inventions in all of history are still ahead. In the Kingdom, we have access to supernatural wisdom (James 1:5).Solomon asked God for wisdom, and God gave him great riches as a result. “Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing (wisdom) . . . I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days” (1 Kings 3:11-13). New ideas (whether inventions, an upgrade to what we have previously been doing, or a new pursuit) will release increased financial flow to our lives.
