6 Christmas Prophetic Words for You

6 Christmas Prophetic Words for You

By Steve Backlund

I love the Christmas story in the gospels. It reveals the unfolding of God’s plan to restore what was lost in the Garden of Eden. It never gets old. And, as I sang Christmas carols this past Sunday in church, I was struck again by the magnificent truths revealed in the birth of our Savior.

The events surrounding the birth of Jesus also give us insights into how God works to accomplish His purposes (and how He brings fulfillment to the divine plan for each of us). These events are a testimony to us of God’s goodness and power. “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Revelation 19:10). The story surrounding Jesus’ birth prophesies  to us of what God will do in our lives in this next season.

Here are six prophetic words for you from the Christmas story:

  1. God is using circumstances to move you into your prophetic purpose - At the beginning of Luke 2, a census caused Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem where Jesus was born (fulfilling the Micah 5:2 prophecy). This was not something either of them would have chosen, but God used it to get them to where needed to be. Right now, our Heavenly Father is using changes of plans, closed doors, frustrations, and new opportunities to funnel you to the right place at the right time.
  2. God is supernaturally birthing something significant through you - Mary’s pregnancy and delivery of God’s solution for the world was not done by human effort, but it was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit. You are in a season of your greatest divine connection with the Holy Spirit that will cause you to birth a powerful something significant for others to experience the love and power of God in life-changing ways.
  3. God’s big solutions for your life and through your life will seem small at first - Jesus coming as a baby speaks to us of the ways of God. Every great person, movement, church, invention, or business started small. Zechariah 4:10 tells us to not despise the day of small beginnings. When Jesus was born, only a few discerned the magnitude of what was happening (the Shepherds, the Magi, Anna, and Simeon). In this hour, God is opening your eyes to the greatness of the  “babies” that have been birthed by you and others.
  4. The right people are coming to you with the resources you need - The riches given to Mary, Joseph, and Jesus was not a small amount. One researcher said it was equivalent to $4,000,000 in today’s money. I am not sure it was that much, but it did give Mary and Joseph enough to raise Jesus well, plus it could have been what was used to fund Jesus’ ministry with His twelve disciples. Mary and Joseph did not make this provision happen, but God spoke to them to invest in them. In this hour, God is stirring the hearts of people to support the God-dreams in your heart.
  5. God is protecting what He is birthing through you - In Matthew 1:20, God gave Joseph a dream about Herod’s evil plan of killing baby boys. He was led to take his family to Egypt. This decision caused Jesus to be protected from this attack. In the same way, God is now guiding you away from that which would harm what He is releasing through you (that which will bring breakthrough and freedom to multitudes).
  6. You are part of God’s genealogy for revival - Matthew chapter one gives the geneolgy of Jesus from Abraham to Joseph (Jesus’ legal father). It is forty-two generations (1,767 years) of God unfolding His plan. The people listed were unaware of the bigger picture - how what they were doing was connect with the generations before them and after them. God’s ultimate plans and purposes will be fulfilled even if it does not completely look like it to the existing generation. This is still true today, and, right now, God is releasing long-term thinking and a gift of faith in you to know you an important part of God’s big plan for redemption to fully manifest on earth.

I release these prophetic words over you now. Some may ask, “But how can you speak these words over all of us? Aren’t you overestimating the importance and potential of most of your readers?” If I was writing to doubters, instead of believers, this might be true. The people reading this are not average, ordinary, or predestined to mediocrity. They are important in what God is doing.

MERRY Christmas. We can be joy-filled this time of the year, not only because of gloriousness of the God’s redemptive plan manifesting, but also because of what it speaks prophetically in our lives. Truly, the testimony of Jesus birth has a great spirit of prophecy for our lives.
