Empowering Our Future with Mind Renewal – Part 2

Proverbs 23:7 is a great verse for radical mind renewers to consider: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he”.

  • If we think we are weak, we are weak.
  • If we think we are less than others, we are less than others.
  • If we think we are anointed to heal, we are anointed to heal.
  • If we think we are righteous, we are righteous.
  • If we think a problem is a problem, then it is a problem.
  • If we think a problem is an opportunity, then it is an opportunity.
  • If we think we are at a disadvantage, then we are at a disadvantage.
  • If we think we are significant, then we are significant.

We are the sum total of our repeated thoughts. We cannot consistently do what we don’t believe we are. For instance, if we try to act righteous, but we think (believe) we are a sinner, we will actually sin by faith, and this negative experience will bombard our thoughts with the lie we are prone to do wrong. Truly, our thought life is where the biggest spiritual battles are fought.

In my previous blog, I wrote: The renewing of the mind can happen both in the positive and negative. Obviously, Romans 12:2 is about positive mind renewal, but the reality is that when we give our inner agreement (our “amen”) to a belief, mind renewal takes place and it impacts our future experiences. I suggest reading Part 1 of this teaching before diving deeper into this one.

It is important to recognize Proverbs 23:7 says, “As he thinks in his heart.” This would imply the deeper, subconscious part of our thinking. It is what Ephesians 4:23 is referring to when it says “be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” It is our deepest core beliefs called strongholds in 2 Corinthians 10:4.

“The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds”  (2 Corinthinas 10:4). We have been given mighty weapons to change how we think in our hearts:

  • Biblical meditation – “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
  • Declarations – “Faith comes by hearing” (Romans 10:17). “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29).
  • Inner healing ministries – “The Lord has anointed Me . . . to heal the brokenhearted” (Isaiah 61:1).
  • Laughter – “A merry heart does good, like medicine” (Proverbs 22:7).
  • Love and revelation encounters with God – “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:14-20).
  • What God has said to us – “But (Jesus) answered and said, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”’” (Matthew 4:4).

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Because there is no limit to how much we can renew our minds, there is no limit to how much we can be transformed. Our future is not restricted by preordained limitations from God. We can empower it to any destination we can believe for. Now that is really good news.
