The Reality & Power of Spiritual Laws

If God told you He would give you whatever you asked for, what would you ask for? Well, Solomon, King David’s son and successor, had this happen to him. Here’s the story:

“On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him,  ‘Ask! What shall I give you?’ And Solomon said to God: ‘You have shown great mercy to David my father, and have made me king in his place. Now, O LORD God, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great person of Yours?’” (2 Chronicles 1:7-10).

When Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge, God was moved and impressed. “Then God said to Solomon: ‘Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life––but have asked wisdom . . . wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like’” (2 Chronicles 1:11-12). An incredible blessing of the Lord would be released because of the greatness of his request that would lead him to understand the reality and power of spiritual laws.

In the Parable of the Talents (see Matthew 25:14-30), there is an assumption that those who were given talents would find a way to increase them. They were not to adopt a passive approach of waiting for God (in His sovereignty) to do something, but they were to find righteous ways to increase what they had. These ways are God’s spiritual laws.

God laws are not rules to be obeyed from a fear of punishment mindset, but they are principles to be accessed to cause increase in our lives. Just as the natural law of gravity can work for us or against us, the same is true for spiritual laws like honor, generosity, faithfulness, godly priorities, speaking life, and more. Solomon received divine insight into these and he massively increased his “talents”.

Look at this example of a spiritual law. “‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth’” (Ephesians 6:2). Applying the law of honor causes increase in the quality and length of our life.

“Blessed is the man (whose) delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper” (Psalm 1:1-3). The psalmist discovered and delighted in the deeper realities of God’s law. He speaks of an incredible life of prospering in what we do.

Solomon asked for supernatural wisdom and knowledge. He gives us a testimony of how to increase our talents. Father, we ask for the same right now. Show us how to delight in your laws in the New Covenant. We thank you in advance for this revelation.
